Meta API: Disclosure (Facebook and Instagram)

Last updated: August 2026

StarReview uses the Meta Graph API so you can reply to comments on your own Facebook Page and Instagram account. This use follows the Meta Platform Terms and developer policies. The connection is optional: StarReview works fully without it.

1. What Meta data we access

When you connect Facebook or Instagram to StarReview, we request the following permissions through Facebook Login:

  • pages_show_list
  • pages_read_engagement
  • pages_read_user_content
  • pages_manage_engagement
  • instagram_basic
  • instagram_manage_comments
  • business_management

With these we access only:

  • Comments on your own posts: the comment text, the commenter's display name, timestamps and the comment id. Only comments on posts from your own Page or Instagram account.
  • The parent post: the text of your own post, so a suggested reply understands the context.
  • Page and account details: the name and id of your Facebook Page and any linked Instagram account, so you can see what is connected.

We do not read private messages, friend lists, commenters' profiles, or posts from Pages that are not yours.

2. How we use that data

  • Showing new comments in your reply queue.
  • Preparing a suggested reply in your tone, when you ask for one.
  • Publishing exactly the reply you approved, as a reply to that comment.

Comment text is sent to our language model provider to draft a suggestion, processed in real time and not stored there. For Meta data we use only the provider declared to Meta.

3. What we do not do

  • We publish nothing without your approval. There is no automatic publishing of comment replies.
  • We do not use Meta data for advertising and do not share it for advertising purposes.
  • We do not sell Meta data and do not use it to identify people across services or to build profiles.
  • We do not delete or hide anyone else's comments.

4. Data storage and retention

  • Comments and your replies are stored in EU data centres.
  • Page access tokens sit in our database, are never exposed to any browser or customer-facing surface, and are used only by our servers to keep your connection alive.
  • Disconnecting in the dashboard removes those tokens immediately and deactivates the link.
  • All user data is deleted within 30 days of account closure.

5. Consent and control

  • You authorise access explicitly through Facebook's standard consent flow.
  • If your Page serves several locations, you choose which Page maps to which location.
  • Every suggested reply is read by you, edited if you want, and approved one at a time.
  • You can disconnect at any time in the StarReview dashboard, or revoke access directly in your Facebook business integrations settings.

6. Data deletion

If you remove StarReview in your Facebook settings, Meta notifies us automatically. We then deactivate the affected connections and delete the associated access tokens. Meta gives you a confirmation code and an address where you can check the status at any time. You can also request deletion directly from us whenever you want.

7. Data protection

StarReview processes data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Further detail is in our Privacy Policy and Terms.
